Sport Swimsuit Issue

A reader’s experience of trying to take pictures in a sporting event highlights this issue: During a recent visit to an English Premier League game I was stopped and told I could not take pictures with my camera as it had a telephoto lens - they had no problem with pocket size cameras.

One of the issues here is the perception of what is a public place. In this case the event is open to the public to attend, but usually the stadiums are private property, controlled by private owners.

While events such as English Premier League (EPL) football matches are marketed as sporting events and the promoters often seek to engage the local community by taking on the persona of a local community. Their names reflect regional affiliations using city or suburb names. For example, we have the Chelsea football Club rather than the Russian Oil Millionaire’s team.
